Medicare/Medicaid Estimate

         There were 48 million people enrolled in Medicare in 2010; there were 53 million enrolled in Medicaid (date unknown).  Roughly there are 313,847,465 people in the United States.
In the most basic sense, Medicare is designed to help with long-term care for the elderly, while Medicaid covers healthcare costs for the poor, but there is much more to it than this

 There is a huge number of discouraged workers-in March 2012 there were about 12.7 million people unemployed. Of those, 865,000 were discouraged workers.
